Respite is a family support service that provides support with a family member who has a disability or diverse support needs. Respite creates greater opportunities for all family members to live actively and participate in community activities.
Respite is a resource that promotes independence and space for both individuals and caregivers. It allows individuals to participate in their community more fully with support from an independent respite provider.
Cape Breton Community Respite is managed by The Society for Treatment of Autism (NS) and connects families with support workers who can be mentors to individuals of all ages with disabilities not just children.
Respite Support and Navigation Services is managed by Autism Nova Scotia (ANS) in the central region of Nova Scotia. Autism Nova Scotia is a non-profit organization with core values of Inclusion, Respect, Collaboration, Acceptance, and Courage.
Northern Region Respite Services (NRRS) is managed by Highland Community Residential Services (HCRS). HCRS exists to foster personal growth, independent living, and a high quality of life for persons with a developmental disability and/or who are dealing with a mental health challenge.
Respite Support and Navigation Services are available to you through The Yarmouth Association for Community Residential Options (YACRO), a not-for-profit Agency, provides residential support for children and adults with disabilities. The Agency exists to enhance each person’s potential to live, work and socialize within the community in the least restrictive, most inclusive manner.
